Messing around with front cover

I was using photoshop in order to see how I can change my photograph of my artist. The one on the left hand side is the orginal photo I took of Paiidz. Due to the quality of my photo I found out that I did not need to photoshop anything. However I tried to play around with photoshop to see how I can change my image and still make it work.
In doing so I found out that the my removing the background of the original image, which can be seen on the left hand size, made the image looked far too cut out. This then made me think twice about the changing the colour of the background.
